The development of the AGRi-Speed HITCH

The Agri-speed hitch is the invention of Barry and Ron Bergman.  It was born out of necessity.
Barry farmed and relied on his father to haul the loads of corn and soybeans.  As time passed the job
of hooking and unhooking the wagons went from a time consuming chore to a very difficult task.
Barry then purchased the best hitch on the market at that time.  Don, Barry's father, found the hitch
very difficult to operate and took it off.  That is when Barry started trying to figure out something
better!

Barry and his brother Ron then came up with what is now known as the Agri-speed hitch.  It is a
very simple design that uses two parts.  The first part slides over the end of the wagon pole and
attaches with a hitch pin.  The other part bolts to the draw bar of the tractor with two bolts.  The
hitch uses the holes already in the tractors draw bar (pictured on left).  To hook up to the wagon the
operator backs up to the wagon aligning the large "V" on the tractor hitch to the rod on the wagon.
As the tractor continues to back up, the hitch raises
the pole and hooks the wagon.  The wagon is now
pulled with a pintle hook that is 1 3/4" thick.  This
is very important because the wagon is pulled with
a part of the hitch that does not move, the moving
parts only hold up the pole of the wagon!  This is a
very safe way to hook to the wagon and also gives
the hitch incredible strength.  After the first hitches
were made, they found that they worked so well it
was decided to patent the idea and produce them.

That was 1990 and today you can find thousands of hitches in use not only in the United States but
Canada and Japan.  The hitches are still made on the farm where Barry lives.  This is so Barry and
his son Mike can keep a close watch on each step of the manufacturing process.  Barry and Mike
also farm so they understand both sides.  They know how important it is to have equipment you
can count on especially at harvest!  These hitches are in many ways overbuilt and capable of pulling
much more than the D.O.T. will allow.  Barry and mike are so confident in their hitch that if after
using it for three months you find that you are not happy for any reason you can return it for a full
refund.
